Success Story
Meet Jamal, who has been coming to Handspring since he was just 6 years old for his prosthetic care! Over the years, we’ve watched him grow into a determined and spirited young man with the biggest smile that can light up any room. Now in middle school, Jamal is reaching new heights with his Esper multi-articulating hand, helping him conquer his daily goals with ease and confidence.
When he’s not acing school projects, you can find him playing video games, cracking jokes and goofing around with his twin brother, Jamel—they’re quite the dynamic duo! We’re so proud to be part of Jamal’s journey and can’t wait to see all the amazing things he’ll achieve.
What Stands Out
Jamal has been a user of myoelectric technology since he was 6 years old! Prior to that he wore body powered prostheses, which he didn't like due to the constraints of the harness/cable system. In his externally powered voyage, when he was 6 years old he started with an Otto Bock Electric hand 2000, when he was 9 years old he graduated to a Bebionic multi-articulating hand, and most recently at 12 years old he was fit with an Esper multi-articulating hand. Jamal loves his new Esper hand due to its durability, how light weight it feels, it's powered rotatable thumb, and how it looks.
